Financing by industry
Salon, Spa and Fitness Business Financing
How personal-service businesses finance build-outs, chairs and equipment, why membership and recurring revenue helps, and what lenders check on a lease-dependent business.
Salons, spas, gyms and studios have a common financing profile: most of the value is in the space and the clientele, not in resellable assets. That shapes what lenders ask for, and where your preparation pays off.
Recurring revenue is the headline
Memberships, packages, standing appointments and retainer-style client relationships are the closest thing this industry has to collateral: predictable revenue. Quantify it — active members or regulars, monthly recurring value, average tenure, churn if you track it. Most owners describe it qualitatively and lose the benefit.
The lease is part of the underwriting
If your revenue depends on a location, the remaining term on that lease matters to a lender considering multi-year financing. A build-out financed over five years in a space with 14 months left is a hard file. Renew or extend before you finance where you can.
Separate equipment from build-out
Chairs, tanning and laser equipment, cardio and strength equipment can be financed as assets. Plumbing, flooring, mirrors, HVAC and construction generally can't be resold, so they're assessed differently. Itemize the request — it reads far better than one number. See how equipment financing works.
